Zebra moray eel
Bathala – 30.11.2019
Always pay close attention onto the reef, you might see some interesting creatures lurking between the rocks and corals. Here we have the zebra moray eel, a rather shy reef dweller, inhabiting reef flats and seaward reefs. They mainly feed on smaller crustaceans, such as shrimps, prawns and crabs, though sometimes a juvenile fish may also be tasty. At approx 60cm of length, they can be a nice encounter for photographers, especially on a night dive. This one was seen recently at Maaya Thila.
