„All beginnings are difficult“
Blog Filitheyo – 24.03.2018
The life of a turtle might start off very romantic with the full moon but it is also a tough job. As soon as they hatch, they have to dig through a layer of sand (about 40 cm , which would be 7m in human size) and then they have to follow the light of the moon, straight into the sea. In these modern times, this is easier said than done. The patio lights of the bungalows on Filitheyo shine brighter than the moon which leads to the little ones relentlessly trying to climb the walls during the night… Only shutting down all lights at the islands would help them find their way easier.
Luckily this time help came in the morning at 6 when one of our instructors – Caroline – was on her morning run and discovered them. Together with a few early risers and some hotel staff a rescue operation was organised to show the little ones the way to the sea.
