Rare encounter on the house reef
Blog Filitheyo – 10.09.2019
Mika was doing an underwater Photo Specialty with a repeater guest from Austria when he spotted something like a stick moving slowly on a sandy patch… What a discovery! A pygmy pipefish!!! This tiny individual is a cousin of the seahorse and was about 5 cm long and the body not wider than 3-4mm… The house reef still offers amazing surprises, like rare frogfish, the elusive ghost pipefish, the well camouflaged stonefish, the swinging leaf scorpionfish and some rare nudibranchs… But this time we had cameras! So if you like macro, dive slowly and look for those rare animals, they are there!
