Saving Sea Turtles
Blog Medhufushi – 24.7.2018
We did a good deed today. Saving a turtle entangled in the net. She was flushed on the beach, could not move at all. After release from the trap, she swam back to the sea. This was a young hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) which is a critically endangered sea turtle, belonging to the family Cheloniidae. In the waters around Medhufushi it is very common to see these kinds. They are a fundamental link in marine ecosystems and help maintain the health of coral reefs and sea grass beds.
We wish “our” turtle a safe trip and good luck navigating through more and more polluted ocean.
