12.04.2018
Logbook - Maldives - MY Sheena

A new trip and a new start into the following week on board of MY Sheena. We will travel in Nilandhe, Meemu and Felidhe Atoll.

01.04.2018 - Filitheyo - Sheena (Faafu Atoll)

Today is the day where we finally meet and greet the people who we shall be sailing and Diving with for the next 1 week. With today being a simple and peaceful day, we give the guests a complete briefing about the boat and a small tour around.

With lunch being later eaten all the guest wanted to go for a check dive. So, we created 2 groups between the Guides Ali & Ved.

Dive 1 – Dolphin Corner

Dolphin Corner (Check Dive)

With a small to medium incoming current we decided to jump close to the corner so that everyone could descend down slowly and get check if their weights ever good enough. The dive was very relaxing for the guests even though the visibility was at 18 m. For fish life we saw some schools on Bat Fish, Surgeon Fish, 2 White Tip reef sharks. Good dive to start the adventure with.

02.04.2018 - Faafu Atoll - Meemu Atoll

Today the plan is to do 1 dive in Faafu Atoll then sail for 2hours towards Meemu Atoll do 2 dives there.

Dive 2 – Barracuda Kandu

Dive 3 – Western Highlight

Dive 4 – Manta & More

Barracuda Kandu – (Channel Dive)

A medium northeast incoming current we chose this time to jump not too close to the corner but a little into the blue to make it a bit challenging by also doing a negative entry. With plan to go towards the drop of the channel, where we have some overhangs. So that we could view the action of of some grey reef sharks and eagle rays. With our bottom reaching close to its limits we chose to gradually rise and drift towards the reef to finally end the dive with a big school of bat fish.

Western Highlight – (Thila Dive)

With a medium to strong incoming current and a visibility being around 15 m this dive site is one of the best sites I have seen in terms of coral life. The words thats only come out of my mouth were WoW. Starting from a depth of 8 m going down to around 28 m this reef is healthy with zero signs of any coral bleaching. Something which is very rare to witness. The fish life at this dive site was also in abundance from it consisting of schools of jack fish, barracudas to napoleons.

Mantas & More (Channel Dive)

With a small to medium incoming current and the visibility being at 25m plus the dive was awesome!!! From the name you would expect Mantas but there weren’t any but there were a lot more… from a School of 15 eagle rays, turtles, napoleons, grey reef sharks and big schools of big eye jacks … Good Dive

03.04.2018 - Faafu Atoll - Meemu Atoll

Today the plan was to do 3 dives in Meemu Atoll

Dive 5 – Mantas & More

Dive 6 – Happy Corner

Dive 7 – White-Tip Station

Mantas & More – (Channel Dive)

With a small incoming current and the visibility being at 18 m there where today grey reef sharks, white-tip reef sharks, schools of jacks, napoleon and a beautiful nurse shark sleeping under an overhang. Again a Good Dive

Happy Corner – (Channel Dive)

With a medium outgoing current and the visibility being at 18 m the dive was a nice drift dive towards the corner where all the action was happening. At the corner there was big grey reef sharks, napoleons, 2 eagle rays, a school of jacks, a school of barracudas and 1 marble ray .. A good dive

White-Tip Station – (Channel Dive)

With a medium southern incoming current and the visibility being at 18m. This dive was very beautiful. There were some grey reef sharks, white tip reef sharks, napoleons and one eagle ray cruising by. At the end of the dive the were 2 sail fishes deciding to set up their sails and provide a show to the divers.

04.04.2018 - Meemu Atoll - Felidhe Atoll

Today the plan was to do 1 dive in Meemu Atoll and 2 Dives in Felidhe Atoll

Dive 8 – Happy Corner

Dive 9 – Rakeedhoo Kandu

Dive 10 – Fotteyo Kandu

Happy Corner – (Channel Dive)

With a medium Outgoing current and the visibility being at 15 m the dive had lots to provide: from grey reef sharks to big schools of big eye jack fishes and some barracudas. Good Dive.

Rakeedhoo Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a small outgoing current and the visibility being at 15 m. We decided to jump inside the channel and drift towards the corner where there was some grey reef sharks, a school of big eye jacks, some napoleon and lots of reef fish – a good dive overall ….

Fotteyo Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a medium outgoing current and the visibility being limited to 15 m we decided to jump on the outside of this channel and visit the overhangs around the channel. On the dive there were some white tips, a single turtle and long-nose hawk fish. Overall a good dive.

05.04.2018 - Felidhe Atoll

Today the plan was to do 4 dives in Felidhe Atoll.

Dive 11 – Fotteyo Kandu

Dive 12 – Fushi Kandu

Dive 13 – Miaryu Kandu

Dive 14 – Alimatha House Reef

Fotteyo Kandu – (Channel Dive and Early Morning Hammerhead Dive)

The plan was to see hammerhead sharks. We were descending near the corner and went to a depth of 30 m maximum. While swimming in the blue you really don’t have any orientation but when suddenly something comes out of no where your eyes will spot it instantly. During the dive two scalloped hammerhead shark came out of no where and went back into the blue. After that we came back towards the channel drop and continued to see some grey reef sharks. A perfect start to an early morning dive.

Fushi Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a small to medium incoming current and the visibility being limited to 15 m. This dive had a lot to provide there like grey reef sharks.

Miaryu Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a Medium Outgoing current and the visiblity being at 20m, the dive had some napoleons and a big green turtle.

Alimatha House Reef (Night Dive)

With a small incoming current and the visibility being at around 20m, the plan was to descend down to 12 m, make a circle and wait in one place. Around 100 nurse sharks came by, circling around on top, in the back, underneath the divers – they were just everywhere, getting attracted by the light and came extremely close to the divers… A good end on a good day.

06.04.2018 - Felidhe Atoll - Vattaru Atoll - Meemu Atoll

Today the plan was to do 1 dive in Felidhe Atoll then travel to Vattaru Atoll do 1 dive there and then travel for the 1 dive in Meemu Atoll.

Dive 15 – Miaryu Kandu

Dive 16 – Vattaru Kandu

Dive 17 – Shark Point

Miyaru Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a small to medium incoming current and the visibility being at 20 m the dive had a lots of grey reef sharks, from babies to adults. The dive was a very relaxing dive and dad lots to see. It has been a good dive in the morning.

Vattaru Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a medium incoming current and the visiblity being at 30m+ this dive was very beautiful. Lots of beautiful coral under large overhangs and in the sandy area there were 2 feather tail whip rays. Good Dive

Shark Point – (Channel Dive)

With a medium incoming current and a visiblity being at 15 m this dive had some schools of big eye jack fish, giant groupers, some white-tips and a single feather tail whip ray. Overall good dive

07.04.2018 - Meemu - Faafu Atoll

Today the plan was to do 1 dive in Meemu Atoll and 1 dive in Faafu Atoll

Dive 18 – Kingdom Of Fish

Dive 19 – Filitheyo Outside

Kingdom Of Fish – (Thila Dive)

With a medium outgoing current and the visibility at 15m, this dive was very beautiful lush with coral and so much of fish life. The coral over here was healthy and it looked again that the terms of El-Nino haven’t affected a few parts of the Maldives yet and keeping out dive site still very beautiful. In terms of fish life there were lots of fusiliers to as this was the last dive for a few divers it was truly a memorable one for them.

Filitheyo Outside – (Outside Reef)

With a medium to strong northeast incoming current, we chosed to jump in the middle. At the dive site there are some grey reef sharks and occasionally some eagle rays. The topography of the dive site is a plateau coming out for the island starting from a depth of 6 m and going down to 30m+. During this dive the highlight was a leafy scorpion fish which was hiding inside a coral block. At the end of the dive we had a big school of bat fish, circling around all the divers till the safety stop was completed.

This week of fun has finally come to an end until the next adventures.

Happy diving and happy bubbles

Many thanks, Ved
