A new trip and a new start into the next 2 weeks on MY Sheena! The tour will show you the southern atolls of the Maldives!

18.02.2018 - Filitheyo - MY Sheena

Today is the day we finally meet and greet the people who we shall be sailing and Diving with for the next 2 weeks.

With today being a simple and peaceful day, we give the guests a complete briefing about the boat and a small tour around with lunch being later eaten. Today everyone wanted to relax and not go diving but start the following day.

In the evening once all the guests had completed their dinner, all the staff decided to line up as it’s a tradition on the Sheena before the trip starts. An introduction of all the staff happen now. After that everybody knows who will be taking care of our guest for the following 2 Weeks of Adventure.

19.02.2018 - Faafu Atoll

Today the plan was we shall stay in Faafu atoll doing 3 dives and creating 2 groups between the guides Ali & Ved.

Dive 1 – Dolphin Corner

Dive 2 – Barracuda Kandu

Dive 3 – Little Channel South

Dolphin Corner

With a small to medium incoming current we decided to jump close to the corner so that everyone could descend slowly and check if their weights are good enough. The dive was very relaxing for the guests even though the visibility was at 18 m. For fish life we saw some schools on Bat Fish, Surgeon Fish, 2 White Tip reef sharks. Good dive to start the adventure with. though the visibility was down the dive had lots to see. From baby White-Tip Sharks who were sleeping under a rock to schools to Bat Fish to lots of reef fish.

Barracuda Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a medium outgoing current, we had to jump inside the channel and later swim towards the corner. The visibility on the dive was 12 m. Even though the visibility was down the dive had lots to see. From baby White-Tip Sharks who were sleeping under a rock to schools to Bat Fish to lots of reef fish.

Little Channel South – (Wall Dive)

With a medium to strong incoming current we jumped close the faru. The visibility on the dive was limited to 15m.On the dive the current did pick up as the topography of the dive site is where the current creates washing machine or Eddies the divers faced something new. In terms of fish life there was lots from White-Tip Sharks to Schools of Snappers and lots of reef fish. All having some fun in the washing machine current.

 

20.02.2018 - Faafu Atoll - Meemu Atoll

Today the plan was to 1 dive in Faafu Atoll and then sail for 2 hours towards Meemu Atoll.

Filitheyo Outside – (Outside Reef)

With a medium northeast incoming current, we decided to jump close the faru. The visibility on the dive was about 18m.The dive was very beautiful. We had some grey reef sharks, some schools of bat fish and at the end of the dive we saw a chilling nurse shar. All in one a good dive.

Western Highlight – (Thila Dive)

With medium outgoing current and the visibility being limited to 12 m, this dive had lots to provide. The Reef is very healthy with the coral all lush and nice. In terms of fish life there were big schools of big Eye Jacks, some Barracudas, Grey Reef Sharks but the highlight on the dive was a Leafy Scorpion Fish. Overall a good and really relaxing dive.

Happy Corner – (Channel Dive)

With a medium to strong incoming current and the visibility being at 20 m the dive had lots to provide. From Grey Reef Sharks to big Schools of Big Eye Jack Fish, to some barracudas. Good Dive.

21.02.2018 - Meemu Atoll

Today the plan was to do 3 dives in Meemu Atoll.

Dive 7 – White-Tip Station

White-Tip Station – (Channel Dive)

With a Small incoming current and the visibility being at 20m+. The dive was very relaxing for the start of the day. There were lots of sharks from Grey Reef Sharks to White-Tip Reef Sharks to a School of Big Eye Jack Fish and a Marble Ray.

Mantas and More – (Corner Dive)

With a small to medium incoming current and the visibility being at 25m+. The dive was awesome!!! From the name you would expect Mantas but there weren’t any but there were a lot more… We had a school of 15 Eagle Rays, Turtles, Napoleons, Grey Reef Sharks and Big Schools of Big Eye Jack Fish. Good Dive!

Valley of The Ray – (Valley Dive)

With a small outgoing current and the visibility being at 12m at this site there isn’t much coral life but this place consists of a Holy Rock. A holy rock where Mantas come and visit to get themselves cleaned. The maximum depth of this dive site is not more than 16 m and holy rock starts from 14 m to 16 m. As the current where small not many visitors of the beautiful gentle creatures. But a sighting of 6 Mantas also end the day on a beautiful note.

22.02.2018 - Meemu Atoll - Thaa Atoll

Today the plan was to do 1 dive in Meemu Atoll and then sail for 2 hours towards Thaa Atoll to do 2 dives.

Valley of The Ray – (Valley Dive)

With a small outgoing current the dive was the perfect start of the day. Once arrived on the Holy Rock (Cleaning Station) there were Mantas everywhere and a small little octopus hiding a coral block wanting some attention too. It was like a show where the true beauty of the underwater world was at its showcase for 60min.

Beauty and the Beast – (Channel Dive)

With a small incoming current and the visibility being at 20m. The dive had lots to provide: Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Reef Sharks, Napoleons, a single Eagle Ray and lots of fusiliers .. A good dive..

Beauty and the Beast – (Channel Dive)

Because the guests liked the site so much and as diving this site again is a good option, we did it again … With a medium incoming current and the visibility increasing to 25m, we saw big schools Of Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Reef Sharks, Napoleons and a big school of Jack Fish.

23.02.2018 - Meemu Atoll - Thaa Atoll

Today the plan was to do 1 dive in Thaa Atoll and 2 dives in Laamu Atoll.

Dive 13 – Dhiyamigili Kandu

Dive 15 – Sharks and Rays Channel

Dhiyamigili Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a strong incoming current and the visibility being at 15m. We decided to jump in the blue and cross this channel. The width of this channel is 800 m. While crossing this channel near the corner there were big schools of Grey Reef Shark, some White-Tip Reef and some Napoleons.

Maxims Kandu — (Channel Dive)

With a small incoming current and the visibility being at 25m+, this dive was awesome!!..A easy drift to cross this channel. During the dive everything came by – from big schools of Schools of Jack Fish, 70-80 Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Reef Sharks, Napoleons, Barracudas and 4 Eagle Rays. This dive was just awesome!!!

Sharks and Rays Channel – (Channel Dive)

With a medium incoming current and the visibility being at 18m. This dive had lots to provide like its dive site name it provided Sharks and Rays. Schools of Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Reef Sharks,12 Eagle Rays and lots of other reef fish. Good Dive!

24.02.2018 - Laama Atoll - Gaafu Alifu Atoll

Today the plan was to do 1 dive in Thaa Atoll and 2 dives in Laamu Atoll.

Dive 16 – Dolphin Kandu

Dolphin Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a small incoming current and the visibility being at 20m. The dive had big schools of Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Reefs Sharks and some Jack Fish. Overall a good and relaxing dive. 

Hitthadoo Corner – (Corner Dive)

With a small outgoing current and the visibility being limited to 12m, this dive had lots to provide. We had a Hawkbill Turtle, a green Turtle, Napoleons and at the end of the dive at one of the cleaning blocks a Manta arrived. A good dive before a long journey.

25.02.2018 - Gaafu Alifu Atoll

The previous night we reached Gaafu Alifu Atoll. Today the plan was to do 3 dives in Gaafu Alifu Atoll.

Dive 18 – Viligili Kandu

Dive 19 – Nilandhoo Kandu

Viligili Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a small incoming current and the visibility being at 18m. The dive had lots to See: Big schools of Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Sharks, Giant Tunas and loads of Jack Fish. Good start to the diving in Gaafu Alifu Atoll.

Nilandhoo Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a medium incoming current and the visibility being limited to 18 m. We decided to jump in the blue and then drift towards the channel drop and stay at a depth of 28 m and watch all the action take place. On the dive we had Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Sharks, Tunas, Napoleons. Good Dive.

Maareha Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a medium to strong incoming current and the visibility not being to great but being at 18 m this dive was awesome. There was so much to see and its sometimes difficult in life to take in so much. There were schools of Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Sharks, Napoleons, Turtles and in the deeper area there were a migration of Jack Fish passing and at the end a Leafy Scorpion Fish who was chilling at the drop off and enjoying the current. In Simple Words AWESOME!!!!

26.02.2018 - Gaafu Alifu Atoll

Today the plan was to do 4 dives in Gaafu Alifu Atoll.

Dive 21 – Gemanafushi Outside

Dive 22 – Vodamula Kandu

Dive 23 – Kuredhoo Kandu

Dive 24 – Boaddoo House Reef

Gemanafushi Outside – (Early Morning Hammerhead Dive)

With a small Incoming current, we decided to jump 100 m away from the reef and swim in the blue to possibly look for Hammerheads. But after swimming for 20 m something seemed to arrive form the blue … and it was a surprise: Not a Hammerhead but a Silky Shark! And then finally while we were all doing our safety stop near the boat we had a special visitor coming and checking us out. a 3 m Whale Shark!!! Good Dive …

Vodamula Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a medium to strong incoming current and the visibility being at 15m. The dive did have loads of Grey Reef Sharks, 2 Silvertips, White-Tip Sharks and loads of Fish. Nice Dive! 

Kuredhoo Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a medium incoming current and the visibility improving to 18m, we had Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Sharks, Napoleons and 1 Turtle. During the dive though the visibility did drop as there was a thermocline. But overall good dive

Boaddoo House Reef – (Night Dive)

With a small incoming current and the visibility being dark…The night dive was beautiful this house reef has a very healthy reef a complete coral garden. On the dive we saw load of things from nudibranch to crabs all chilling in the night. Good dive.

27.02.2018 - Gaafu Alifu Atoll - Laamu Atoll

Today the Plan was to do 2 dives in Gaafu Alifu Atoll and drive back on an 8 Hour journey to Laamu Atoll.

Dive 25 – Kooddoo Kandu

With a small incoming current and the visibility being at 20m.The Dive a very relaxing and had lots to see. There were Grey Reef Sharks, Some Silvertip Sharks, White-Tip Sharks and a Big School of Jack Fish. Good Dive. 

Viligili Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a medium incoming current and the visibility being at 18 m the dive didn’t  disappoint – big schools of Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Reef Sharks and loads of Fish but the highlight where the Sharks!!! Good Dive before a long journey.

28.02.2018 - Laamu Atoll - Thaa Atoll

Today the plan was to 3 dives 2 in Laamu and 1 in Thaa Atoll. But Unfortunately, we could only do 2 dives a we were having some mechanical issues.

With a small incoming current and the visibility being limited to 18 m the dive was very relaxing. Irrespective the coral life was not much but there still some fish mostly reef fish though and a single turtle. 

Maxim Kandu — (Channel Dive)

With a small incoming current and the visibility being at 18 m the dive was very beautiful. The dive was not unlike the same when we had come before but there were still some schools of Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Reef Sharks, Napoleons, Jack Fish, Barracudas and lots more…Good Dive.

01.03.2018 - Thaa Atoll

Today the plan was to 3 dives but the diving Dhoni needed to be taken to the boatyard to get the mechanical issues sorted out so unfortunately, we could do only one dive today.

 

Dive 29 – Dhiyamigili Kandu

With a medium incoming current and the visibility being at 15m. The dive was very good. There were loads of Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Reef Shark. During the dive the current changed to outgoing. But the dive was still good.

02.03.2018 - Thaa Atoll - Meemu Atoll

Today the plan was to do 4 dives as our diving Dhoni was fixed.

Dive 30 – Olhugiri Kandu

Dive 31 – Valley of The Ray

Dive 32 – White-Tip Station

Dive 33 – Boomerang

 

Olhigiri Kandu – (Channel Dive)

With a small incoming current and the visibility being limited to 15 m. The dive was very relaxing with some Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Sharks, Napoleons, 1 Turtle and a Marble Ray…During the dive though the current did change to outgoing. Good Dive

Valley of The Ray – (Valley Dive)

With a small outgoing current and the visibility being at 15m. The dive was awesome for 60mins Mantas came provided a show for us and went … Good second dive.

White-Tip Station – (Channel Dive)

With a strong incoming current and the visibility being at 18m. The dive was awesome. The dive had so many sharks form Grey Reef Sharks, White-Tip Reef Sharks,1 Silver Tip..Good dive 

Boomerang – (Night Dive)

With a small incoming current and the visibility being dark and at around 12 m. The dive was relaxing fun. There where lots of crabs and Nudibranches.

03.03.2018 - Meemu Atoll - Faafu Atoll

Today the plan was to do 1 dive in Meemu Atoll and 1 Dive in Faafu Atoll.

Dive 34 – Happy Corner

Happy Corner – (Channel Dive)

 

With a small incoming current and the visibility being at 18m, this dive had Grey Reef

Sharks, White-Tip Reef Sharks, Schools of Jack Fish, Schools of Barracudas, Giant

Tunas, and Nurse Shark chilling under an overhang waiting to be found. And at

the end of the dive at the safety stop there were big groups of dolphins making circles

around the divers. An awesome end to the morning dive.

 

Viele Grau Riffhaie, Weispitzen Riffhaie, Schulen von Jacks, Schulen von Barrakudas riesige Thunfische und ein Ammenhai unter einem Übergang, der nur darauf wartete gefunden zu werden, hatten wir bei diesem Tauchgang mit einer leichten, einlaufenden Strömung. Am Ende des Tauchgangs, während des Sicherheitsstop gesellte sich eine große Gruppe von Delphinen zu uns, die ihre Kreise um uns zogen… ein tolles Ende für den Morgentauchgang …

 

Filitheyo Thila – (Thila Dive)

With a strong incoming current and the visibility being at 20 m the dive was relaxing with some White-Tip Reef Shark, one Napoleon and a Big Schools of Fusiliers …. A good last Dive.

Finally, the 2 weeks of fun came to an end. We some awesome dives and looking forward for some new adventures ….
