Barrakuda / Barracuda

Egal ob allein oder als Schwarm – der Barrakuda ist ein gern gesehener und faszinierender Fisch.

Ihr Ruf, gefährlich zu sein, macht sie wohl umso interessanter. Allerdings kam es hier noch nie zu einem Angriff.

Die Barrakudas oder auch Pfeilhechte genannt, sind Raubfische. Während die jungen Barrakudas oft in riesigen Schwärmen leben, sind die ausgewachsenen Tiere doch ehr Einzelgänger.

Gestern hatten wir das Glück sowohl einen riesigen Großen als auch einen Schwarm Jungtiere zu sehen.

No matter if alone or in a school – the barracuda is an impressive and most welcome fish.

Its reputation of being dangerous is making the barracuda even more interesting. Nevertheless there has never been an incident with a barracuda on the Maldives.

The barracuda is a ray-finned fish and belongs to the genius Sphyraena. It is a predator. While adults are more or less solitary, the young and half-grown fish frequently congregate.

Yesterday we were lucky to spot both – a huge adult and a school of teenagers!
