Ogoh-ogoh & Nyepi

Gestern war der letzte Tag vom balinesischen Jahr. An diesem Tag werden die bösen Geister von der Insel vertrieben und deshalb findet ein Umzug statt bei dem Abbildungen der bösen Geister (Ogoh-ogoh) durch den Ort getragen werden und anschliessend am Strand verbrannt werden. Der Umzug ist eine sehr lustige Angelegenheit. Heute ist Nyepi, der Tag der Stille, wo ganz Bali Ruhe hat. Kein Verkehr, keine Flüge, keine Lichter, niemand geht auf die Straße und jeder verhält sich ruhig. Leider wird auch nicht getaucht :(, aber es ist ein sehr erholsamer Tag.

Yesterday was the last day of the Balinese year. On this day the bad spirits are chased off the island and that’s why a procession is held in which statues of bad spirits (ogoh-ogoh) are carried through the village and consecutively burned at the beach. This procession is a very merry affair. Today is Nyepi, the Day of Silence, on which all of Bali is quiet. No traffic, no flights, no lights, nobody on the streets and everybody is silent. Unfortunately there is no diving either :(, but it is a very relaxing day.
