Selamat Hari Raya Nyepi dan Tahun Baru Saka 1936

Auf Bali hat gestern das neue Jahr angefangen mit dem stillen Tag (Nyepi). An diesem Tag ist ganz Bali in Ruhe, es gibt kein Verkehr (auch keine Flüge!), kein Lärm, kein elektrisches Licht und keine Aktivitäten. Wir geniessen diese Ausnahmezustand, denn es ist sooo ruhig. Am Tag davor gab es den Ogoh Ogoh Umzug, wobei Statuen aus Pappe, welche die böse Geister vorstellen, über die Strasse getragen wurden und anschliessend, nach einer grosse Zeremonie, am Strand verbrannt wurden. Dieser Umzug fand schon länger nicht in unserem Dorf statt und deshalb war der Begeisterung gross. Wir wünschen Euch alle ein gesegnetes neues Jahr 1936!

On Bali yesterday the new year started with the silent day (Nyepi). On this day everywhere on Bali it is quiet, there is no traffic (no planes either!), no noise, no electric light and no activities. We enjoy this state of exception, because it is sooo quiet. On the day before the Ogoh Ogoh procession took place, where statues made of cardboard, representing the bad spirits, were carried over the street and subsequently burned on the beach after a big ceremony. This procession was not held in our village for a longer period and therefore the excitement was great. We wish everybody a blessed Newyear 1936!
