Balinese Ceremony

Vor ein paar Tagen hatten wir die Zeremonie um Metal und damit aller Arten von Maschinen segnen zu lassen.
Ursprünglich war die Zeremonie für die Krieger Bali’s gedacht ihre Waffen segnen zu lassen um sich so das Wohlwollen ihrer Götter in der Schlacht zu sichern. Der moderne “Krieger” Balies schwingt nun nicht mehr des Schwert sonder steht hinter dem Pflugschar beim Reisanbau oder fährt wie unser Kaptain Gobang unser Boat die Baba. Der moderne Krieger Bali hat sein Schwert gegen gegen Pflugschar und andere Maschinen ausgetauscht um sein täglich Brot zu verdienen. Beides ist jedenfalls aus Metal gemacht und muss somit jedes Jahr aufs neue gesegnet werden. Bei uns in der Tauchbasis wurden alle Kompressoren, Autos und auch unser Boot die “Baba” gesegnet.

A few days ago we had a ceremony which is dedicated for the blessing of metal and so for all kinds of machines and other things made of metal mandatory.
Back in the old days this was a ceremony where the balinese warriors blessed their swords and daggers. This way, they hoped, they were favoured by their gods in battle. The modern balinese Warrior does not swing his sword anymore but is standing behind a plowshare to plant rice for his family or he works as a captain, like our Gobang, to make a living. But still made of metal and so they are have to be blessed every year. For us that means we have blessed compressors, car and boat.
