Mobulas
Nicht nur das wir jetzt wieder von unseren Mantas umgeben sind. Nein, auch die kleineren Vertreter von ihnen statten uns immer wieder einen Besuch ab. Die Rede ist von den Mobulas. Für die die sich da nicht so auskennen, werden sie immer wieder als Mantas bezeichnet. Aber im Gegensatz zu den Mantas werden die Mobulas nur ca. 1 bis 1,5 Meter gross und haben ein bauchseitiges Maul und Zähne in beiden Kiefern. Sie sind aber, genau wie die Mantas auch, Filterer, d.h. sie filtern das Plankton aus dem Wasser und ernähren sich davon. Wir waren absolut fasziniert von der Schule von Mobulas die uns am “Boahura Express” in Formation entgegen kamen. Was für ein Erlebniss. Der Tauchgang wurde dann noch von unzähligen Schildkröten, Napoleons und natürlich Mantas verperfektioniert!
Not just that we have our Mantas back. No! Even the smaller members of the Devil Ray family comes to visit us from time to time. We speak about the Mobulas. Most of the people who are not so familiar with the rays mix them up with the Manta but contrary to the Mantas the Mobulas only have a span of about 1 to 1,5 meters and they also have the mouth on the belly side and teeth in both jaws. But they are, as well as the Mantas, filterer, which means they filter the Plankton out of the water, feeding on it. We have been fascinated by the school of Mobulas which passed us in formation at “Boahura Express”. What an impression.
They, as well as the countless Turtles, Napoleon and of course the Mantas made it The Perfect dive!
